Hey, you're back

Unnamed
Took you guys long enough to get your act together.

The Gurus Respond:

Seeker
Yes, well, it was unfortunate. To make up for it, we've put together a small skit called "What Happened".

Perry
Oh, I like skits.

Walter
Yeah, me too.

Perry
Yeah, they're neat.

Walter
Yeah.

Seeker
And now we present: "What Happened"

Impossible Mission Guy
Hey, all right! HomeLAN is going to move us onto the big server cluster with Penny Arcade and everyone! We need to change our DNS info.

Abe
Well, I guess we need to contact our registrar and give them the updated information.

Seeker
Dear Best Register,

Please change truemeaningoflife.com's DNS information to the following:

Primary: NS-WEST-2.HOMELAN.COM 66.220.21.225
Secondary: NS-EAST-1.HOMELAN.COM 66.205.193.10

I have not yet received a response to this. My domain is
now pointing at nothing thanks to your
inaction. Please change the DNS information immediately to the following:

Primary: NS-WEST-2.HOMELAN.COM 66.220.21.225
Secondary: NS-EAST-1.HOMELAN.COM 66.205.193.10

Why I even have to e-mail once to get this changed is a mystery to me. DNS
management is automated at other registrars. That I have to e-mail TWICE is
inexcusable.

Abe
Their website is working. Somebody should answer. They're a reseller for Bulk Register, we should contact them and tell them Best Register isn't responding.

Seeker
Dear Bulk Register,

The reseller responsible for my domain is bestregister.com. I need to have my DNS information changed, but they have not responded to e-mails, and they do not have a phone number listed on their website. I need to have my DNS information changed as soon as possible, as truemeaningoflife.com can no longer be reached. If there is anyone there who can do so, here is the information:

Domain: truemeaningoflife.com
New DNS:
Primary: NS-WEST-2.HOMELAN.COM 66.220.21.225
Secondary: NS-EAST-1.HOMELAN.COM 66.205.193.10

Bulk Register
Oh boy, a support request. Ah, he wants to change his DNS info. It says here his registrar is BestRegister.com. I will e-mail him this form letter that tells him to contact BestRegister and he will be happy.

Copy...paste...T-h-a-n-k- -y-o-u-,- -R-o-b-e-r-t-.
Send!

Seeker
Oh good, they replied!

Seeker

Seeker
Mother fucker!

Seeker
Dear Robert,

You did not read my message. I have tried to contact BestRegister through that e-mail address-- multiple times-- and I have gotten no response.

Bulk Register
Oh, he is writing back to me to thank me for my wonderful idea!

Hmm. I do not understand what he means or maybe I just don't care so I just won't respond.

Dear Bulk Register support,

This is the sequence of events so far; please pay careful attention, as the
last time I e-mailed Bulk Register the person who responded did not even
read the support request.

1) I e-mailed support@bestregister.com , one of your resellers, over a week
ago to get the information changed for my domain, truemeaningoflife.com
2) I received no response and e-mailed them again a couple of days later.
3) After still not receiving a response, I e-mailed
domainsupport@bulkregister.com , explaining that BestRegister was not
responding to my e-mails.
4) This is the part I am upset about: the person who replied sent me a form
response telling me to contact BestRegister when I clearly explained that my
problem was that BestRegister was not replying to me.
5) I replied to Bulk Register support that my post had been misread and that
I needed my DNS information changed ASAP and that Best Register was not
responding.
6) Having received no response after two days, I am now sending this e-mail.

I am very disappointed in the level of service that both you and your
reseller have provided. My domain has been unreachable for over a week now,
and I can't get anything more than a form letter. My last e-mail did not
even get a response! Please fix this as soon as possible.

Bulk Register
I think I might have gotten fired or something. Whatever happened, I am not replying to this e-mail.

Impossible Mission Guy
These guys have to have a phone number.

Abe
I didn't see it.

Impossible Mission Guy
Yeah, but look, he's wearing a headset. Look some more.

Seeker
I found it.

Bulk Register
Hello.

Seeker
Yes, your domain management reseller isn't responding to my e-mails and I have mailed you about this before, blah blah blah, no response so now I'm calling.

Bulk Register
What we have to do is to try and contact the reseller ourselves and if they don't for five days then we can go ahead and change the DNS information.

Seeker
Well, change it now, because it's been way more than five days since I first let you know about this.

Bulk Register
But we have to wait five days.

Seeker
It's not my fault that the guy who read my letter didn't take the appropriate action. My website has been unavailable for over a week and a half now because of that. You need to fix it.

Bulk Register
I will have to talk to my manager. Please hold.

Bulk Register
OK, I will make the changes that you sent in your e-mail.

Seeker
Thank you, bye.

Bulk Register
Wow, this is a lot of letters and numbers. Unfortunately, I do not know how to copy and paste, so I will enter them by hand and not check to make sure that I did it right.

Seeker
Well, that should take care of things. I'll wait a couple of days for the new DNS info to propagate.

Hmm, I can't access the site. Let me look at the WHOIS info for the domain.

Seeker
Double fuck fucking shit bastards!
Golly!

Seeker
Dear Bulk Register support,

Please check your work. BulkRegister tech support changed the DNS information for my domain a few days ago (my reseller was not responding to my requests to change the info) and I want to confirm that the change went through properly.

The DNS info should be as follows:

Domain: truemeaningoflife.com
Primary: NS-WEST-2.HOMELAN.COM 66.220.21.225
Secondary: NS-EAST-1.HOMELAN.COM 66.205.193.10

The information I'm seeing in WHOIS does not match this. Please check your records and make the change if necessary.

Bulk Register
Oh, I sure do enjoy the Dr. Phil show. He makes me feel good about me being unable to string together two cognitive processes of my own. Let's see what this guy wants.

Oh, we made that change, yes we did. I will show him that we changed it. Did we change it to what he asked us to change it to? I'm sure we did, I don't need to check.

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for contacting BulkRegister. The name server change was made 11-nov-2002. Please see the whois information below:

Domain Name: TRUEMEANINGOFLIFE.COM
Registrar: BULKREGISTER.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.bulkregister.com
Referral URL: http://www.bulkregister.com
Name Server: NS-WEST-1.HOMELAN.COM
Name Server: NS-EAST-1.HOMELAN.COM

Seeker
I can't believe this.

Seeker
Dear Bulk Register,

That is the WRONG information. It should be WEST-2, not WEST-1. I have had it up to here with this. I ask you to double check, and you still get it wrong. In case there is still some doubt, that is the WRONG information. As in, NOT CORRECT. Please fix it.

Yes, contact us! We never replied to the e-mails you sent two weeks ago!

Seeker
And now the site works! It was that easy.

I've already transferred the domain to another registrar (one that lets you manage your own DNS info), and I'm looking forward to going through all this again when these clowns don't respond to my new registrar's transfer notice.

So anyway, welcome back to TMOL.
